Nerd Week in Review: 4/19/08

Posted by Mat No Comments »

Some interesting things in the world of Nerddom went on this week.  A sex tape, a Youtube divorce announcement, tons of comic book releated film and game projects, and G4TV gets stoned…wait, that’s an announcement?  From the look of their recent programming, I’d say they’ve been high there for a while now.

And awaaaaaay we go!

Sex from Beyond the Grave!

New Marilyn Monroe sex tape uncovered!Hollywood’s latest sex scandal may turn out to be one of its oldest.  That’s right, a 15 minute, 16mm reel of film has been uncovered which shows Marilyn Monroe administering some oral-loving on an unknown man whose face was just off camera.  In the early 60s, J Edgar Hoover spent weeks trying to proove the unknown man was either John F Kennedy or Robert Kennedy.  Whoever it was, I have to give him props…if it had been me in the reel, the footage would only have been about a minute and a half long.

The recovered footage was sold to an unnamed businessman for $1.5 million dollars, who said he would not be releasing the tape out of respect for Marilyn.  I’d say that means we have about 6 months before it hits YouTube. Read More »

Nerd News: Tetris the Movie Trailer…freakin’ awesome!

Posted by Mat No Comments »

“Life is just blocks…trying to fit together to make lines. And that’s who we are.”

You know, as much as the G4TV Cable Channel really annoys me these days, the Feed section of their website is something I hit every day. It has a lot of good information for the Nerd-On-The-Go — and I totally love the MMO Report. Blair Butler, on the other hand, is terrible.

Anyway, today the Feed a little tidbit popped up that put a big ol’ smile on the Nifty Nerd’s face. The article contained a link to the “Tetris the Movie” trailer over on Black20.com’s website and I have to say it was one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a long time. In spite of the moron’s leaving messages over on the Feed article, the trailer was in fact done for fun by Thomas Seymour and Mike O’Gorman. You can tell from watching the trailer that these guys had an absolute BLAST doing the “Tetris the Movie” trailer. Good stuff and good times. Check out the high quality Tetris the Movie trailer or view the lower res version below.

A brother dies. A hero is born. Get in line for adventure. Tetris is here.

The guys did a great job and I look forward to seeing more from them in the future.

What the FUCK, G4TV??

Posted by Mat 3 Comments »

G4TV is sucking tonight!Ok, I’ve been a follower of G4TV forever — since TechTV and, before that ZDTV.  As a professional nerd I spend a lot of time with it playing in the background as I work.  And, as a longtime fan, I’ve turned a blind eye when they started playing Fastlane and Star Trek reruns…I pretended not to notice when they cancelled all of the TechTV shows in favor of the Man Show, Cops and Cheaters.  Heck, I even put up with countless re-airings of Ninja Warrior, x-Play and Attack of the Show.

But tonight I have reached my limit.  You see, tonight G4TV is airing (and multiple times) “Lost In Translation.”  Read More »

Bite Me, Fanboy the Movie: Blooper Reel

Posted by Mat No Comments »

In my career I’ve worked on a ton of movies — big budget, low budget, made for TV, direct-to-video…you name it and I’ve done work on it.  In spite of all the bigger flicks I’ve worked on, my absolute favorite experiences were on the set of the micro-budget film, “Bite Me, Fanboy.”

BMF was shot and put together on a shoestring budget — although, on the money we had to do it I doubt we could have actually affored to buy shoestrings — and filmed late at night on the weekends for about 6 weeks.  I believe we had about 14 days or so of shooting.  The majority of the film was shot at Comic Relief in Berkeley, California, which was a lot of fun to get to do.

Anyway, I’ll talk more about the flick in upcoming posts, but to start I’ve posted a copy of the Blooper Reel from the “Bite Me, Fanboy” DVD release.  It’ll give you an idea of the blast we all had while filming.

Oh, and before I forget, you can purchase the “Bite Me, Fanboy” DVD at the Nifty Comics Store.  Check it out!

World of Warcraft Player taken to Court by Ex-Girlfriend

Posted by Mat No Comments »

While surfing YouTube instead of doing something more constructive (like downloading porn or finding CAWs for “Raw vs Smackdown 2007″), I came across what has to be one of the most important cases in the history of the Unit States legal system. That’s right, the ex-girlfriend of a nerd finally got fed up enough to take this slacker, World of Warcraft playing r-tard to court. Well, to Judge Judy’s court.

It seems the nerd in question borrowed money from her, didn’t pay rent and neglected to find gainful employment…well, unless you count mining for silver in the mountains of Dun Morogh to be gainful employment. So she kicked him out. Read More »

“Green Lantern” Movie Officially Screwed

Posted by Mat No Comments »

Well, it’s now official: Warner Brothers and DC Comics suck ass. I’m assuming there will be a press release stating that fact sent out shortly. You see, in the infinite wisdom of the Warner Bros., Greg Berlanti has just signed a deal to not only write but also direct a live-action “Green Lantern” movie.

My reaction: WHAT THE FUCK??!?!! Read More »
