It's October again...kind of hard to believe. I mean, where'd summer go already?! Nevertheless I'm back with more fandom-themed pumpkin carving templates to fulfill all your geeky needs this Halloween. Enjoy and happy carving!
You guessed it! Back with another project from our wedding. This time I'm going to share our Settlers of Catan wedding centerpieces. The 2 of us love playing board games, so we had to include something board game related in the wedding.
The husband came up with a great idea for the Settlers themed centerpieces. It ended up being a fun challenge to bring these to life. While we wanted to represent the game, we wanted the centerpieces to still feel somewhat elegant and not be overly cheesy for those who didn't know or understand the board game connection. We ended up doing lots of brainstorming and going through a bunch of iterations for each one.
Back with another wedding post! Last time I showed you our Nintendo video game card box. Today I'm going to show you our Magic the Gathering cake topper!
For our 'geek chic' wedding, we of course needed a nerdy cake topper. The theme was clear to us -Magic the Gathering- since we met playing Friday Night Magic. The tough part was coming up with a topper that was themed but still somewhat elegant. We ultimately decided on a custom, light-up acrylic cake topper -made with the help of our local Duluth MakerSpace.
It's official! The Nifty Nerd is now Mrs. Nifty Nerd! I finally got married last weekend and it was fabulous.
Our overall theme was "geek chic." We wanted the wedding to feel like us and showcase our nerdy passions, but we still wanted it to be classy. One of our more geeky touches was our card box. My husband created a video game themed card box using a hollow tube TV and N64 console. Here's how he made it:
We actually had summer-like weather all weekend long here in Northern Minnesota. That got me in a sunshine mood and feeling like I needed a fun new geeky accessory for the upcoming summer season. Enter -homemade Star Wars comic book ballet flats. You can't beat geek chic!
When I was a child I use to love every chance I got at participating in treasure hunts. Heck, even as an adult I still love these types of activities! To celebrate my stepson's birthday, I designed a scavenger hunt for him to complete in order to find some of his birthday presents. Creating the hunt wasn't too hard and he definitely had a lot of fun with it.
My loving fiance has a bad habit of leaving his keys all around the house. To help save him some time and key-hunting grief I decided to make him his very own custom Supernatural key holder. I wasn't sure if it'd break his habit, but much to my pleasant surprise, he's been using the key hooks with regularity!
I actually made the key rack as a Valentine's Day gift for him and he was happily surprised at the Supernatural theme, since after all, that is one of his favorite shows. The craft project was quite simple to make too.
February's already here again. That means Valentine's Day is shortly upon us! People seem to love or hate this holiday. I just think it's a fun day for eating candy and giving cheesy cards to friends, family, and significant others. This year I've created 9 free, printable Valentine's Day cards that are perfect for any nerd in your life.
It's January in Northern Minnesota. That means it's time for cutting some paper snowflakes. This year I decided to create a Harry Potter themed snowflake!
Sometimes a gift needs a little touch of handcrafted care or geeky flare. Add that final detail through your wrap job by creating a custom wrapping paper that perfectly matches the nerdy interests of your receiver. Keep reading for some geeky inspiration!
